Absract: The article studies the functions of citations and allusions in “Memoirs” by Comte Bussy-Rabutin, aThe article studies the functions of citations and allusions in “Memoirs” by Comte Bussy-Rabutin, aprominent courtier and writer of the second half of the 17th century. The sources of allusions are tracedto ancient, medieval and contemporary literature, thus revealing Bussy-Rabuten’s taste in literature andpreferences. The paper has an inference that among various literary trends, which influenced his work, themost important were the contemporary French classical drama, the gallant and burlesque poetry and prose.
