Absract: In 2017, the Humanities project concerning preparation of the 6-volume “General History of Russian Literature”, which is to be written in Chinese, received a governmental status in the PRC. At present, the work on this project is well underway. Here, the author of the article, also the General Editor of the project, gives insight into methodology for this study. The article provides an overview of major works on the history of Russian literature, with particular focus on those translated into Chinese or written in Chinese, including the most recent ones; the article also accounts for the structure, specifics, and authors of the 6-volume History. The team of experts participating in the project strives to create a comprehensive history of Russian literature from its beginnings to the present (spanning 11th–21st centuries) and to relate it from the perspective of Chinese philological scholarship, both traditional and contemporary. In the intended 6-volume set, special attention will be paid to the views of several generations of Chinese scholars on the history of Russian literature, and their achievements are to be drawn together; also, there will be featured materials concerning the Chinese reception and dissemination of Russian literature, as well as multicultural evidence of the Russian/Chinese literary connections. Such an essential History will be of great relevance not only for scholars in China, but also abroad; it will make the achievements of Chinese experts in the field of Russian studies reachable for a wide audience.
