Absract: In this paper, an experience of lexicographical description of current Russian vocabulary and phraseology in the first two volumes of “Academic Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language” is presented. Each part of a dictionary article is discussed from a standpoint of interaction of the traditional and the new. The paper has for aims to demonstrate that a large number of different lexicographical improvements in the dictionary provides a new, better quality of lexicographical presentation of Russian in comparison with previous academic explanatory dictionaries.
