Absract: The article deals with the structure of the time and narrative events in the folklore of the Mongolian-speaking peoples. It is commonly accepted that the structure of time for human beings is most often marked by explicit symbolic clichés. Time as represented in stories is structured by overlapping laws of both a real and symbolic mythological time. In the folklore of the Mongolian-speaking peoples mythological time exists in parallel with the real time; sacral and secular times also intermingle. Thus, the structure of time in the folklore of the Mongolian-speaking peoples may be presented as a system of various modes of transformation and modification of mythological and real time. The traditional understanding of time in the folklore is malleable, mutable and multi-dimensional. The unity of spatial-temporal coordinates, of time and place forming complex zones where narrative events take place, constitutes a specific feature of all genres of Mongolian folklore.
Keywords: Mongolian-speaking peoples, folklore, heroic epic, fairy tale, shaman’s invocations, time, structure.
